Springfield, Illinois (May 1, 2017) – Central Illinois Foodbank kicks off the 10th Annual Corporate Food Fight Challenge this month with a goal of getting 25 businesses to compete in the food, funds and friends drive. In 2016, over $24,000 was raised by 20 businesses, who also logged 353 volunteer hours and donated over 9,700 pounds of food.
The 2016 champion was Hickory Point Bank & Trust who raised nearly $2,300. The Hickory Point Bank staff also donated 252 pounds of food and put in over 105 hours of volunteering and will be back to try to defend their crown.
The Corporate Food Fight Challenge made its return in 2015 after a brief hiatus, and in 2016 doubled the dollars raised. “We have been fortunate to have great support from companies in central Illinois and I think the support in previous Corporate Food Fight Challenges proves that,” said Central Illinois Foodbank executive director, Pam Molitoris.
This year the Foodbank has a goal to raise $30,000, 12,000 pounds of food, and 500 hours of volunteer service through the challenge, which runs through August. The Foodbank is still looking for businesses who want to participate. If a business wants to get in on the food fight they can contact Elaina Feuerbach at 522-4022.
