How Does The Foodbank Work?
How Does The Foodbank Work?

FOOD IS GATHERED
Central Illinois Foodbank and our network of partners – which consists of individuals, farmers, manufacturers and USDA – donate food and funds.

food is stored
Food is handled in our 57,000 square foot facility with cold storage and equipment to ensure the highest level of food safety.

food is distributed
Our fleet of three refrigerated vans and five refrigerated trucks, deliver millions of pounds of food across central and southern Illinois with the help of volunteers.

food reaches you
Annually, with the support of 140 partner agencies and other community organizations, the Foodbank distributes over 8 million meals of nutritious food to our neighbors.
Nutrition Policy
Nutrition Policy
Central Illinois Foodbank has a long history of service to the community, providing food to help individuals and families who are faced with food insecurity. We recognize the important role food banks play in providing healthful foods to neighbors. Using the Healthy Eating Research (HER) Nutrition Guidelines, we make sure neighbors get the best through our Nutrition Policy (2022).
Kitchen Cart
Kitchen Cart
In addition to distributing food across our 21 counties, we aim to empower families with tools and knowledge needed to enjoy new, healthy foods. Our Kitchen Cart helps provide hands-on education to our neighbors. Individuals, families and children are able to engage with the Kitchen Cart, talk with nutritionists, and learn healthy and easy recipes.
For any organizations interested in our Kitchen Cart, please contact Program Manager, Wes Ridgeway at (217) 522-4022.
