SPRINGFIELD – As shoppers filed into Hy-Vee stores across the nation, they were unknowingly contributing to something bigger than their weekly grocery run. By rounding up their purchases, they helped Hy-Vee raise enough funds to provide 100 million meals nationwide for neighbors facing hunger. Now, a portion of those funds is helping families in central and southern Illinois.
Central Illinois Foodbank announced Tuesday it received a donation of xxx from Hy-Vee, thanks to the retailer’s successful partnership with Feeding America.
Hy-Vee’s 100 Million Meals campaign – which asked customers to round up their purchases at the register – reached its national goal, with money raised going to local food banks based on the store’s location.
The funds raised at Hy-Vee locations throughout central and southern Illinois will now directly benefit the foodbank and its 140 partners, supporting its mission of providing nutritious food to families facing food insecurity in the region.
“We are incredibly grateful for this donation from Hy-Vee and their customers,” said Pam Molitoris, executive director of Central Illinois Foodbank. “Their generosity helps ensure we can continue to serve our community and reach even more families who are struggling with hunger.”
Hy-Vee’s contribution is part of its broader effort to support the communities it serves, emphasizing a commitment to making a difference at a local level. Central Illinois Foodbank will use the donation to bolster its hunger relief programs, providing food to families, seniors, and individuals in its community.
